The Boston Globe published an Associated Press (AP) story in which the Rochester, NY police chief (and his two top assistants) resigned because of what he called attacks on his character and integrity. These resignations were in the midst of ongoing Black Lives Matter and Antifa protests against the City and the police in Rochester after a Black man died while being restrained by police.
The race of the citizen who died was disclosed, but not the race of the Chief. Can you guess why?
I read this story first in today’s Wall Street Journal, which carried a photo of the Chief. He is African-American. The WSJ story also discussed the resignation of the Black Chief in Dallas, TX.
How is it that all these Black police chiefs are racist themselves and allowing racism to run rampant in their police force? Seems like a strange argument to make, sort of like an “Uncle Tom” type slur in which racism is occurring despite Chiefs–and officers–who are minorities including African American.
The Globe story had no photo of the Rochester Chief, but I read the article and there is no mention of his race. Apparently, it is not newsworthy, according to the Boston Globe.
But the original AP story which I looked up online (see photo four) discloses the race of the Mayor and Police Chief in Rochester. Both are African-American. The AP story is https://apnews.com/6c98300f0911848faf2bd38a0aeaf8b9, and here is the AP paragraph at issue:
Singletary, who spent his entire career in the Rochester Police Department, was appointed chief in April 2019. He will stay on through the end of the month, Warren said. Both the mayor and Singletary are Black.
Here is the Globe’s version of the same paragraph:
Singletary, who spent his entire career inside the Rochester Police Department, was appointed chief in April 2019. City Council President Loretta Scott told WHEC that Singletary will stay on until Sept. 28.
So the Boston Globe removed the reference to the Chief’s race when it published the AP article. This is an obvious attempt at hiding the plainly inconsistent “protest” movement with the people who would normally be above reproach as far as race relations go.
The Black Lives Matter spokesman quoted in the article says that they want the Rochester Mayor to also resign. How ironic. Another African-American politician who is a closet member of the KKK, I guess.
It seems like Black Lives Matter’s major accomplishment during several months of rioting, looting, arson, and mayhem is the resignation of several prominent Black public safety officials, including the African-American female Police Chief in Seattle named Carmen Best, who was told to stand down while the rioters took over one of her precincts.
I guess Black Lives Matter but not Black Careers.
This article gets an “F” for media bias, but it obviously isn’t the fault of the AP reporters. This plainly rests with the Boston Globe editors and their supervisors, Publishers John Henry and his wife Linda. It is hard to believe there is any oversight going on at any level.
